Hello Hornsby

Introducing ‘Hello Hornsby’, a special program of regular activities, outings, events, information sessions and workshops for Hornsby Shire residents aged 60+ years.

‘Hello Hornsby’ will create environments and opportunities where seniors can come together, meet new people, reconnect with old friends, and perhaps even try or learn something new.

The program of events will be free of charge and will be held in various locations around the Shire.

This project is brought to you by your Special Rate Variation. Building a stronger future for Hornsby Shire.

Friday 29 August, 3pm-6.30pm

Location: Hornsby Library

Celebrate inclusivity and pride in Hornsby Shire on Friday 29 August with two free events.

Join us for one or both:

  • 3pm-5pm – Community afternoon tea, connection and craft – all welcome!
  • 5pm-6.30pm – Community SING! Join our spontaneous choir, learn an iconic song and sing together in a fabulous finale. No singing experience required and light refreshments served.

Events are free and online bookings are required to reserve your space.

Friday 12 September, 2pm-3pm

Location: Hornsby Library

Dr Charmere Linton is a consultant geriatrician practising at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital in Northern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She is one of the clinical leads for the GRACE (Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation) team providing comprehensive geriatric care, dementia and delirium management in the community and residential aged care setting. She is an early carer researcher with interests in dementia, frailty, and polypharmacy. She is a dedicated educator and mentor and plays an active role in clinical training and medical education.

Riverbaot postman cruiseTrip on the Riverboat Postman for Dementia Action Week

Tuesday 16 September, 10am-1pm

As part of ‘Hello Hornsby’ and in honour of Dementia Action Week 2025, we are pleased to invite people with dementia and their carers to join us on The Riverboat Postman tour for a wonderful day out.

This free event is open to Hornsby Shire residents who are living with Dementia and their carers. The event will include homemade Anzac biscuits for morning tea on arrival, a delicious lunch, as well as cake and a cuppa served before we dock. We hope this event will be an enjoyable day exploring the beautiful Hawkesbury River that brings joy and connection to our residents living with Dementia.

Booking: Tickets are limited and bookings are essential.

Everybodys OmaFree Screening of "Everybody's Oma" for Dementia Action Week

Thursday 18 September, 10am-12.30pm

Location: Hornsby Library

To increase understanding of people living with Dementia & their Carers, Council are hosting a screening of this heartwarming documentary.

Council will host a free screening of the award-winning documentary Everybody’s Oma on Thursday 18 September at Hornsby Library. Everybody’s Oma is a beautiful dementia care story about filmmaker, Jason van Genderen’s ageing mother, Oma.
