Waste and Recycling
Council currently runs two programs for primary schools a school composting and veggie garden program called Ready Set Grow and a school litter and recycling program Ready Set Grow Plus.
We run these programs to ensure that schools are empowered to initiate and maintain sustainable waste reduction practices. Both programs are for three years and focus on reduction of waste in the school.
For further information about these programs contact Council’s Waste Education team on 9847 4856 or email waste@hornsby.nsw.gov.au
If you are interested in a recycling or waste collection service for your school phone our commercial waste officer on 9847 4856 or email waste@hornsby.nsw.gov.au.
School Assignment Resources
Council has compiled some references as a starting point for students doing an assignment on waste management.
Waste management
The waste hierarchy was established under the Waste avoidance and Resource and Recovery act 2001. The following waste priorities were established by the legislation:
- Avoidance
- Resource Recovery (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle)
