The project will repurpose a portion of an existing carpark on Coronation Street in Hornsby to create a new, permanent micro plaza under a “ghost building”, as well as a pop-up community event space.
Why?
Your High Street is a state-wide program to promote permanent improvement projects in local government areas.

What is a high street?
More than just a street for the movement of motor vehicles, high streets can be found in town centres throughout local government areas. They are main streets that provide vitality to the local neighbourhoods, supporting the local area with jobs and services such as shopping, dining, entertainment, health and personal services to meet the daily and weekly needs of the local community. Revitalisation of high streets can drive town centre renewal, supporting community and businesses to rebound now and beyond COVID-19.
Update – August 2023
Judge’s Bakery ghost building and public plaza is now completed and open for the public. The area has a variety of seating options, a water refill station (including a bowl for your pooch) and a bike repair station.

Stage 2
The final stage of the project is an expansion of the event space to the north with the demolition of several old garages in Jersey Lane and new power supply and lighting to facilitate events and activations. These works are taking place in September 2023.

Update – May 2022

Coronation StrEat! will repurpose a portion of an existing carpark on Coronation Street in Hornsby to create a new, micro plaza under a “ghost building”, as well as a pop-up community event space. The project will permanently repurpose the southern end of the carpark on the corner of Jersey Lane and Coronation Street to create a new public space that supports take away dining opportunities for local businesses in the precinct.
The ghost building is a nod to the building that used to stand on the site which operated as a bakery for over 70 years. The northern end of the carpark will remain as a carpark but will be able to provide a flexible space for celebrations, food trucks, outdoor dining, farmers markets, live music and other activities for all to enjoy.
The intent of the pop-up event space is to attract visitors to the west side of Hornsby – enhancing the trade opportunities for all businesses.
