Beecroft to Cheltenham Shared Pedestrian / Cycleway Path – Route B

The project involves construction of a shared path between Beecroft and Cheltenham Railway Stations (Route B) and is to be fully off-road with raised boardwalk sections to minimise impact to existing trees. In addition to providing this pathway, Council will also upgrade The Crescent to improve stormwater drainage, construct kerb and gutter (railway side only) and install designated pedestrian crossing points. This section of work is part of the overall proposed shared path between Pennant Hills and Epping, which also includes Pennant Hills to Beecroft (Route A) and Cheltenham to Epping (Route C).

Construction of the shared path commenced in May 2022. Majority of the route was completed in September 2023 and opened to the public. There remains a short missing link between the Beecroft Village Green and The Crescent which runs parallel to the railway track. Construction of this section of the shared path has been delayed due to the need for extensive consultation with key stakeholders. However, Hornsby Shire Council is happy to announce that following extensive, favourable consultation, we expect to complete construction of the missing link in 2025. In the interim, a temporary all weather access track has been provided to improve accessibility along this desire path.

Detailed designs for the shared paths along Pennant Hills to Beecroft (Route A) and Cheltenham to Epping (Route C) routes are in progress. The proposed routes are as follows:

Route A - The route between Pennant Hills and Beecroft generally follows an established walking path between the two strategic points, Pennant Hills Station and Beecroft Station. It commences on the southern side of Pennant Hills Road opposite Yarrara Road, passing through Beecroft Road and Albert Road, continues in Wongala Crescent and connects with the Route B shared path behind Beecroft Community Centre.

Route C - The route from the Cheltenham Station to the Epping runs along The Crescent before crossing the M2 and terminates in Parramatta LGA. The cycleway runs parallel to the railway and commences on the western side of The Crescent at Cheltenham Road. It crosses over to the eastern side after Lyne Road and continues until the end of The Crescent. A significant bridge structure is proposed at the end of The Crescent to cross over the M2 motorway, which would allow pedestrians/cyclists to continue their journey towards Epping.
