Beecroft Station Upgrade

The NSW Government is improving accessibility at Beecroft Station. The upgrade is part of the Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering modern, safe and accessible infrastructure. Early work commenced in November 2019 and construction is expected to be completed in early 2021.


Project Update – November 2021

lift construction at Beecroft station After almost 15 months of major construction, the Beecroft Station Upgrade is nearing completion. Final work is underway at the station and the new lifts are set to open to customers shortly.

Work will continue in November and includes:

  • continuation of electrical and communication services upgrade work
  • continuation of work associated with lift structures
  • commissioning of lift structures
  • upgrade of the power supply.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, concrete trucks/pumps, asphalting equipment, delivery trucks, power tools and hand tools.

Commuter car park closure

Weekend work will be carried out in the Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park from 7am to 6pm on Friday 12 November until Monday 15 November 2021. The work will include resurfacing and line marking.

All parking spaces within this commuter car park will be temporary closed during this time.

Parking will remain available in surrounding streets or Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, asphalting equipment, delivery trucks, concrete trucks, power tools and hand tools.

There will be some construction noise associated with this work. We apologise for the inconvenience and will minimise the impact by turning off vehicles and equipment when not in use, monitoring noise levels, and using non-tonal reversing beepers. All equipment will be positioned as far away from residential areas as possible and breaks will be used to provide respite during noisy work.

Site office relocation

The existing site office and amenities at the Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park will be relocated to the grass next to the station bin area and footpath to enable work in the car park to take place. The temporary fenced site office will be removed once work is completed by the end of November 2021.

Station toilet work completed

The toilet in the station building has been upgraded as a family accessible toilet and has reopened to customers. The temporary toilet has been removed.

Ongoing station access changes

The stairs and ramp between the Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park and the station will remain closed until late 2021, to allow for construction of the new lift to be carried out. Customers can continue to access the station via the ramp from Wongala Crescent, and the pedestrian underpass tunnel.

Construction hours

Standard construction hours are 7am to 6pm every day, including Sundays and public holidays. This is to facilitate social distancing on construction sites and support the health and wellbeing of workers.

This work schedule may be subject to change due to NSW public health orders.

Project Update – October 2021

Work will continue in October and includes:

  • continuation of the refurbishment of the existing platform toilet facilities
  • continuation of electrical and communication services upgrade work
  • continuation of work associated with lift structures.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, concrete trucks/pumps, asphalting equipment, delivery trucks, cranes, power tools and hand tools.

There will be some construction noise associated with this work. We apologise for the inconvenience and will minimise the impact by turning off vehicles and equipment when not in use, monitoring noise levels, using non-tonal reversing beepers and acoustic barriers.

Public Holiday day work – Monday 4 October 2021

Work will be carried out continuously from 7am until 6pm on Monday 4 October 2021 during a scheduled Sydney Trains track weekend work when trains are not running and the station is closed.

The pedestrian underpass will be open for use. The work will include:

  • grinding and painting the platform coping
  • installation of roofing on the new platform canopy
  • electrical work inside of the existing station building.

Equipment to be used includes concrete grinders, paint spray machines and other hand tools.

All equipment will be positioned as far away from residential areas as possible and breaks will be used to provide respite during noisy work.

Weekend work – Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 October 2021

Weekend work will be carried out continuously from 1am on Saturday 30 October until 10pm on Sunday 31 October 2021 during a scheduled Sydney Trains track work weekend when trains are not running.

As the station is closed, the pedestrian underpass will also be closed during this weekend work. Please use local streets to cross the rail corridor at Copeland Road and Sutherland Road.

The work will include:

  • regrading and resurfacing to the city end of the platform
  • paint and install louvre windows to the heritage lantern building
  • installing tactile tiles to the platform edge.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, asphalting equipment, mobile work platforms, mobile lighting towers, delivery trucks, cranes, power tools and hand tools.

All equipment will be positioned as far away from residential areas as possible and breaks will be used to provide respite during noisy work.

Station toilet closed – temporary toilet available

The existing toilet in the station building will be continue to remain closed until November 2021 while it is upgraded to a family accessible toilet. As it was outlined in September notification, weekend work scheduled late July could not be carried out due to pause in construction and the entry to the family accessible toilet could not be completed.

A temporary unisex toilet is available for use at the Sutherland Road entrance to the pedestrian tunnel. Toilet facilities will continue to be available when the station is attended by Sydney Trains staff. Please contact 131 500 or transportnsw.info for further information regarding services and station operation hours. Signage is in place to help with these temporary changes.

Station toilet closed – temporary toilet available

The existing toilet in the station building will be continue to remain closed until November 2021 while it is upgraded to a family accessible toilet. In line with restrictions introduced by the NSW Government on 17 July 2021 to help keep our communities safe, construction activities on Beecroft Station Upgrade were paused until Friday 30 July. Thereby, weekend work scheduled over Saturday 24 July and Sunday 25 July could not be completed, and therefore the completion of the toilet access ramp has been delayed.

A temporary unisex toilet will continue to be available for customer use at the Sutherland Road entrance to the pedestrian tunnel, and is available during station opening hours. Signage is in place to help customers with these temporary changes.

Permanent footpath

The footpath upgrade, between underpass and Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park, will be completed by mid - August. The temporary footpath will be removed and pedestrians will have access to the new permanent footpath

Project Update – July 2021

Installation of platform canopy – Beecroft

The Beecroft team completed a significant amount of scope during the June 2021 work weekend. The following was achieved:

  • installation of platform canopy (pictured above) and platform drainage network
  • regrading and resurfacing to the country end of the platform
  • continued work to upgrade the station communication services and power supply
  • installation of brickwork to the heritage lantern Building.

Work to upgrade Beecroft Station will continue in July and includes:

  • continuation of the refurbishment of the existing platform toilet facilities to convert the bathroom into a family accessible toilet
  • continuation of electrical and communication services upgrade work
  • excavation and concrete work associated with the replacement of the existing footpath between the station and Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, concrete trucks/pumps, asphalting equipment, delivery trucks, cranes, power tools and hand tools.

Weekend work – 6am Saturday 24 July until 3am Monday 26 July 2021

Weekend work will be be carried out continuously from 6am on Saturday 24 July until 3am on Monday 26 July 2021 during a scheduled Sydney Trains track work weekend when trains are not running and the station is closed. The work will include:

  • regrading and resurfacing to the city end of the platform
  • asphalt the area near to lifts
  • paint and install louvre windows to the heritage lantern building
  • installing tactiles to the platform.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, concrete trucks/pumps, asphalting equipment, mobile work platforms, mobile lighting towers, delivery trucks, cranes, power tools and hand tools.

All equipment will be positioned as far away from residential areas as possible and breaks will be used to provide respite during noisy work.

Temporary changes to Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park

6am on Saturday 24 July until 3am on Monday 26 July 2021, the car park will be closed to allow for construction vehicles including a elevated work platforms, large deliveries and resurfacing work to be carried out. Please use the remaining parking spaces on local streets or park within the Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park. Signage will be in place to help pedestrians and motorists with the temporary changes.

Station toilet closed – temporary toilet available

The existing toilet in the station building will be continue to remain closed until late July 2021 while it is upgraded to a family accessible toilet. The final piece of work to enable the toilet to reopen for use will be the platform resurfacing work scheduled during July weekend work.

A temporary unisex toilet is available for use at the Sutherland Road entrance to the pedestrian tunnel. The temporary toilet is available during station opening hours. Signage is in place to help with this temporary changes.

  • excavation and concrete work associated with the replacement of the existing footpath between the station and commuter car park adjacent Sutherland Road.

Upcoming work

The Beecroft Station Upgrade is underway with steel assembly work in the Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park commencing in late Februray. Work will continue in March and include:

  • piling, concrete and excavation work for the lift well foundations in the old booking office for the new lift (including small dump trucks removing spoil intermittently via the underpass)
  • concrete and excavation work for the lift well foundation at Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park
  • assembly of structural steel for the lift within the Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park, and craning the lift shafts into place during weekend work.

Equipment to be used includes dump trucks, excavators, a crane, concrete trucks/pumps, delivery trucks, truck-mounted crane, power tools and hand tools.

Weekend work – Friday 12 to Sunday 14 March 2021

Weekend work will be be carried out continuously from 10pm on Friday 12 March until 7pm on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 March 2021 during a scheduled Sydney Trains trackwork weekend when trains are not running and the station is closed. The work will include:

  • installing temporary hoarding on the platforms
  • piling and excavation work on the platform to create a new canopy
  • installing the lift shaft in the old booking office
  • working to extend the old booking office.

Equipment to be used includes piling rigs, excavators, dump trucks, cranes, delivery trucks, elevated work platforms, power and hand tools. All equipment will be positioned as far away from residential areas as possible and breaks will be used to provide respite during noisy work.

As the station is closed, the pedestrian underpass will be closed from 7am Saturday 13 March 2021 to 10pm Sunday 14 March 2021. A temporary detour using Copeland Road (to the south of Beecroft Station) will operate during the work.

Both commuter car parks will be closed throughout the weekend work for the safety of workers, pedestrians and motorists. Signage will be in place to assist customers.

Temporary changes to Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park

Up to 30 parking spaces will be closed until Monday 22 March 2021 to allow for construction vehicles including a large crane, steel deliveries and steel assembly to prepare for upcoming Wongala Crescent lift construction weekend work in mid March 2021.

Please use the remaining parking spaces within the car park, or park within the Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park. Traffic control and signs will be in place to help pedestrians and vehicles with the temporary changes.

Work is progressing well on Beecroft Station Upgrade with excavation of the old booking office lift area underway during January. Work will continue in February and include:

  • piling, concrete and excavation work for the lift foundation in the old booking office (in the pedestrian underpass).
  • concrete and excavation work for the lift foundation at Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park
  • assembly of structural steel for the lift in Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park.

Equipment to be used includes dump trucks, excavator, crane, concrete trucks/pumps, delivery trucks, truck-mounted crane, power tools and hand tools.

Temporary changes to Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park

From 7am Monday 22 February until 9pm Sunday 14 March 2021, up to 30 parking spaces will be closed in Wongola Crescent Commuter Car Park to allow for construction vehicles including a large crane, steel deliveries and steel assembly to prepare for upcoming Wongala Crescent lift construction work in March 2021. Please use the remaining parking spaces within the car park or Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park.

Traffic control and signs will be in place to help pedestrians and vehicles with the temporary changes.

  • installation of site fencing along the footpath between the Sutherland Road commuter car park and at the eastern entrance of the pedestrian underpass, to enable the removal of spoil from the station building.

Changes to the bicycle rack

The existing bicycle rack was temporarily closed and relocated in December to allow construction activities to occur.

Two accessible parking spaces have been temporarily relocated from Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park to Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park. Untimed parking is also available on nearby streets.

The Beecroft Station upgrade is underway with site establishment and investigation activities in progress.

Work will continue throughout November and will include:

  • piling and concrete work for the lift foundations at the Wongala Crescent lift area
  • demolition and concrete work within the old booking office (in the pedestrian underpass)
  • installation of site fencing along the footpath between the Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park and the eastern entrance of the pedestrian underpass
  • minor relocation of the bicycle hoops.

Equipment to be used includes a piling rig, excavator, concrete trucks/pumps, delivery trucks, truck-mounted crane as well as power and hand tools.

Temporary station access changes

The stairs and switchback ramp between Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park and the station will be closed until late 2021, to allow for construction work to be carried out. Commuters can continue to access the station via the pedestrian underpass tunnel and ramp.

Temporary commuter car park changes

Up to four parking spaces in the south-western corner of Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park will be closed until late November 2021, to allow construction work to be carried out. Two accessible parking spaces have been temporarily relocated from Wongala Crescent Commuter Car Park to Sutherland Road Commuter Car Park. Untimed parking is also available on nearby streets.

Artwork – Wongala Crescent

The glass artworks which were installed at the completion of the Epping to Thornleigh Third Track (ETTT) project by artists Amanda Kay, Jerome Dobinson and the community will be temporarily removed and stored off-site to ensure their preservation during the upgrade. The re-installation location is to be decided in consultation with Hornsby Shire Council and the artists.

Project overview

Upgrading Beecroft Station will make it easier for everyone to access, including those with a disability, limited mobility, parents/carers with prams and customers with luggage.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • two new lifts to provide access to the pedestrian underpass and station platform
  • regrading the existing footpath to provide an accessible path to the new lift
  • a new pedestrian landing over the existing staircase
  • improvements to accessible parking in the Sutherland Road commuter car park
  • upgraded footpaths around the station precinct to improve accessibility
  • new platform canopy providing under cover access from the lift to the Boarding Assistence Zones
  • improved station precinct security (CCTV), wayfinding and lighting
  • new landscaping.

Project update

A contract for the design and construction of the Beecroft Station Upgrade project was awarded in June 2020, with survey and investigation work occuring this month.

Site establishment and construction acitivites are expected to start in September 2020.

Weekend work: 25 and 26 July 2020

Work will be be carried out from 7am to 7pm on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July 2020 during a scheduled trackwork weekend.

Please note, the pedestrian underpass will be closed from 7am to 7pm on Saturday 25 July 2020. A temporary detour using Copeland Road (to the south of Beecroft Station) will operate during the work to ensure the safety of the community and our workers.

The weekend work will include:

  • using a small drilling rig to undertake geotechnical investigations of the ground conditions and services on the existing ramp to Wongala Crescent and platform
  • surveying the platform, station building, existing services and footings
  • constructing a temporary service crossing beneath the rail tracks.

The results from these investigations will help inform the final design of the project.

Equipment to be used includes mini piling rigs, vacuum excavation trucks, delivery trucks, elevated work platforms, power and hand tools. All equipment will be positioned as far away from residential areas as possible and breaks will be used to provide respite during noisy work.

Up to 5 spaces will be unavailable while site investigation work is underway within the Wongala Crescent car park during July scheduled weekend work. Signage will be installed to notify commuters of the changes.
