Brooklyn Boardwalk Upgrade

Brooklyn Boardwalk Upgrade

Upgrade work on the superb ‘Mangrove Walk’ boardwalk at Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn has been completed!

The refurbished ‘Mangrove Walk’ boardwalk now features:

  • a new deck with a ‘grip mesh’ surface treatment
  • structural reinforcements
  • new side rails, and
  • improved seating on the boardwalk viewing platform.

The new decking material is safer, stronger, more economic and lasts longer than timber decking and requires minimal maintenance.

The long bench seat at the boardwalk viewing platform has been renewed, is constructed with Class-1 Australian Hardwood, and now feature a backrest.

The boardwalk is 240 metres in length – enough for a 15-minute walk in a spectacular mangrove and bushland setting.

The boardwalk experience has been improved significantly and feels much more inviting.

The dressed hardwood timber rails and dark grey round posts give an iconic nautical feel to the boardwalk.

A uniquely tailored construction methodology allowed for key structural works to be undertaken with low impacts.

Discreet design features of the boardwalk allow visitors to move more intuitively along the deck and enjoy a better experience and view of the protected sensitive environmental areas of Brooklyn Park.

The best main point of access to the boardwalk is from the war memorial (see map below), which is connected to Brooklyn Road via a concrete footpath. There is also another access point from the field nearer the playground and skatepark area.
