Road work on Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road between January and June 2024

Transport for NSW will carry out essential maintenance on Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road between January and June 2024.

This work is being done to repair damage to the state road network caused by the wet weather events experienced across Sydney in 2022.

In 2022 and 2023, we carried out road patching to address the most critical issues. During this time, we have been designing a long-term solution.

Transport for NSW will now start work replacing sections of asphalt and repainting road markings along sections of Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road.

Further information on the project location is shown on the map below.

When will we be working?

We will be on site from Monday 15 January until the end of June 2024, weather permitting.

We will work up to five nights a week from Sunday to Thursday, between the hours of 8pm and 5am. We will not work on Friday or Saturday nights, or on public holidays.

Traffic changes

There will be temporary traffic changes during the night to make sure the work zone is safe.

Some of the work locations can be completed under lane closures, stop/slow traffic control and reduced speed limits. These locations are highlighted in red on the map above and will be carried out between January and early February 2024.

The remaining work locations will be completed under road closures from early February with detours in place for motorists. These locations are highlighted in purple on the map above.

Why do we need to close the road?

We understand that closing roads and detouring motorists will be inconvenient and we thank the community for their patience during these shifts.

Due to the winding road conditions and lack of road shoulders on some parts of Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road, we will need to close sections of the road and detour motorists for safety reasons.

Where possible, we have identified locations where we can maintain access under stop/slow traffic arrangements.

How will the work affect you?

This work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic. It may be noisy at times, but we will do everything we can to minimise our impacts, including:

  • turning off equipment and vehicles when they are not in use
  • finishing the nosier tasks by midnight

How can I get more information?

We will notify the community again before commencing work with the specific detour information, however, to access the most up to date project information, or to request project updates via email, please contact our delivery partner via the contact details below.
