Road work on Old Northern Road, Middle Dural to Maroota
Transport for NSW will carry out essential maintenance work on Old Northern Road between Wednesday 17 April and Friday 28 June 2024.
The work will involve replacing sections of asphalt and repainting road markings on Old Northern Road, in both directions, at the following locations:
- Old Northern Road between Mid Dural Road and Edwards Road, Middle Dural
- Old Northern Road between Wylds Road and Munros Lane, Arcadia
- Old Northern Road between Schwebel Lane and 2852 Old Northern Road, Glenorie
- Old Northern Road between 3900 Old Northern Road and Wisemans Ferry Road, Maroota.
You may be aware we are currently carrying out similar work on Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road as there are current nighttime road closures in place. If this work is delayed due to wet weather, it will be completed before we commence any road work on Old Northern Road, to ensure detour routes are not impacted.

Work schedule
Work will be carried out at night between Wednesday 17 April and Friday 28 June 2024, weather permitting. The duration of asphalting work is as below:

Further to the asphalting work, there will be an additional three night shiftsof line marking at each location.
We will work from Sunday to Thursday between the hours of 8pm and 5am.We will not work on Friday nights, Saturdays or public holidays.
What will this mean for you and how will we manage it?
Our work needs to be carried out at night to limit disruption to traffic and reduce safety risks to our workers, pedestrians and motorists.
The work may be noisy at times, but we will do everything we can to minimise our impacts, including:
- working at two locations at the same time to reduce the length of the program
- resurfacing progressively along the road to avoid impacting the same area each night.
Residents are not expected to hear the line marking work.
Traffic changes and detours
As part of this work, we will need to close Old Northern Road between Wisemans Ferry Road, Maroota and Galston Road, Dural.
Northbound traffic will need to detour via:
- Pennant Street, Showground Road, Windsor Road, Pitt Town Road, Cattai Road and Wisemans Ferry Road.
Southbound traffic will need to detour via:
- Wisemans Ferry Road, Cattai Road, Pitt Town Road, Windsor Road, Showground Road and Pennant Street.
Please allow up to one hour of additional travel time when planning your trip.
Please note that some restricted access heavy vehicles will not be permitted to use Showground Road in the detours outlined above. The list of these restricted access heavy vehicles and alternate detour routes can be found on the project webpage.
Access to properties on Old Northern Road
Access to properties on Old Northern Road between Wisemans Ferry Road and Galston Road will be maintained under the direction of traffic controllers.
Residents will experience delays while we arrange safe travel through the work area.
Notification of all road closures will be displayed on Variable Message Signage boards at least five days before any traffic changes come into effect.
Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.
