Work begins at Storey Park

This week demolition of the old Asquith Community Centre at Storey Park began, making way for a brand new community facility.

“It’s always a little sad to see the end of a building that has brought so much joy to countless people over the decades, but Storey Park was certainly due for a makeover,” Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock said.

“There has been significant population growth in the area and this is an example of Council meeting the growing needs of the community.”

“The community has been eager to see this happen and we are pleased to be able to deliver it.”

The new state-of-the-art centre will include:

  • multipurpose rooms to cater for a wide range of events and activities;
  • a fenced  inclusive play environment for various age groups, including an adventure area;
  • shade covered play equipment for younger children;
  • a children’s bike path;
  • barbecue and picnic areas, with plenty of shade and seating;
  • onsite parking and fully landscaped surrounds;
  • at least 100 new trees (part of Council’s commitment to plant 25,000 by 2020).

“There’s going to be something here for everybody,” Mayor Ruddock said.

The oval at Storey Park will continue to operate while construction takes place.

A pedestrian access path through the site will be maintained between Old Berowra Road and the oval on Lodge Street to accommodate users.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
