Sign Up in September to win

Throughout September Hornsby Shire’s libraries are throwing open their doors (even wider than usual) and inviting everybody to take advantage of the vast range of services the libraries provide.

The libraries will put on all sorts of different events and activities, including a draw for various prizes, including iPads and gift cards.

Library and Information Services Manager Cheryl Etheridge says the campaign is particularly aimed at people who have an outdated idea of libraries.

“These are not just places to borrow a book or do some research, although those services are still very much on offer,” Mrs Etheridge said.

“These are community hubs, where all kinds of great events take place and a whole range of different services can be accessed.

“For instance our new video streaming service, allowing members free watch their choice out of  more than 30,000 movies, has received a tremendous response.”

The Shire’s four libraries – in Hornsby, Berowra, Galston and Pennant Hills – currently have more than 62,000 members and receive almost one million visits each year.

Mrs Etheridge said the campaign is not just aimed at attracting new members, but encouraging current members to make greater use of the libraries.

“If you haven’t been to one of our libraries for a while you will be surprised by how much they have changed,” she said.

“We are constantly adding new services, such as access to digital Marvel comics and the Storybox Library, where celebrities like Nick Cave read your child’s favourite stories.

“There really is something for everybody and we would love for you to check it out.”

To be in the running to win, pick up your library passport in September and check off the listed activities as you do them.

The first 1,000 people to hand in their passport will receive a free card wallet to stick to your mobile phone, ideal for keeping your Opal card and library card handy.

We’ll also be leaving free books around the Shire throughout September, so keep your eyes open to discover your next favourite read.
