Sandstone barrier for Malton Road accident site

Publish date:

Hornsby Shire Council will place large sandstone blocks on Malton Road in North Epping, at the site of last week’s fatal vehicle accident, as a barrier to prevent similar accidents from occurring.

Council was in the process of sourcing the blocks when it received a generous offer from CMS Contracting and Plant Hire to supply them for free.

“We are very grateful for this generous offer, which was inspired by a personal connection to the accident,” Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock said.

“The director of the company, Mick Snell, is a relative of one of the women who was injured.”

The sandstone blocks are intended as a temporary barrier, with a permanent solution to be decided following investigation of the accident.

“We are all devastated by this tragic accident and the entire community shares the grief of the impacted families,” Mayor Ruddock said.

“We are determined to see that this never happens again.

“Once the various investigations are completed we will look at the recommendations and decide upon the most effective permanent solution.

“In the meantime, this sandstone barrier will allow people within the shopping centre to go about their business with the full knowledge they are safe.”

The sandstone blocks will be put in place tomorrow morning.
