Playgrounds in Mount Colah, Asquith and Dural ready for school holiday fun

Hornsby Shire Council is excited to unveil a brand-new playground at Berry Park, Mount Colah, alongside playground upgrades to Mills Park Playground, Asquith and Moorfield Hills Reserve, Dural – all ready for families to enjoy these winter school holidays.
At the heart of this announcement is the new local-scale playground at Berry Park, opened yesterday by Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell and Deputy Mayor Janelle McIntosh. The new playground features a large climbing frame with slide and a swing set with an accessible basket seat, standard swing and baby swing. Nestled beside native bushland, the playground also includes a nature play trail that extends into the surrounding vegetation, offering opportunities for balancing, climbing and imaginative play.
Fitness stations have also been installed, along with additional seating, a picnic setting, improved accessible car parking. Additional tree plantings for shade and a two-metre-wide pedestrian circuit path will be complete later this month.
Berry Park continues to serve as a seasonal sports hub, hosting junior soccer and cricket, and now offers even more for families seeking active and inclusive outdoor fun.
“We’re proud to deliver this fantastic new playground for the residents that live on the east side of Mount Colah,” said Hornsby Shire Council Mayor Warren Waddell. “It’s a play space that has long been requested and reflects the feedback we received from residents – welcoming, inclusive, and connected to nature.”
In addition to Berry Park, Mills Park in Asquith has undergone a thoughtful upgrade, featuring new playground equipment, three picnic settings, pedestrian lighting and additional tree plantings. This project was funded by a Local Small Commitments Allocation grant from the NSW Government. New fitness equipment is currently planned to be installed in August.
Meanwhile, Moorfield Hills Reserve Playground in Dural has been refreshed with a large play tower, basket swing, four-way rocker and inclusive play panels. New informal seating, picnic seating and an accessible concrete path at the playground entrance from Ravensbourne Circuit have also been added. The playground, now elevated to Local Level in line with the Council’s Play Plan, is designed to serve a larger local area.
These projects reflect Council’s ongoing commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive and well-equipped public spaces across the Shire. All three playgrounds have been shaped by community feedback and are designed to meet the needs of local families.
