Final call for entries – Hornsby Art Prize

The countdown is on for the Hornsby Art Prize, with the submission deadline rapidly approaching. Artists from across the nation are encouraged to submit their unique artworks before entries close on 5 September.

Organised and sponsored by Hornsby Shire Council in collaboration with Hornsby Art Society, the Hornsby Art Prize has become a well-respected event in the Australian art community. Celebrating the diversity and excellence of contemporary Australian art, the non-acquisitive prize has an impressive total prize pool of $23,000, with the esteemed top award amounting to $10,000.

This year’s panel of judges are contemporary painters, Paul Ryan and Chris Langlois, and senior digital effects artist, Nicole Mather.

Artists aged 18 years and above, who are Australian residents, are invited to participate in this prestigious prize. Entries are accepted in the following medium based categories, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Digital Art Stills and Sculpture.

Local artists residing in the Shire can compete for the Hornsby Shire Local Artist Award, which features a cash prize of $5,000.

To participate, artists need to submit a digital image of their work, along with an artist statement and pay a $40 entry fee.

Hornsby Shire Mayor, Philip Ruddock expressed his excitement for the upcoming art prize.

“I am once again thrilled to witness the artistic talent on offer in the Hornsby Art Prize, as well as the artistic brilliance that thrives within our local community,” said Mayor Ruddock.

“I encourage any Australian artist to get involved, submit their works and be part of this exceptional art prize.”

The award ceremony will be held on 20 October, with the exhibition to be held at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, Hornsby from Friday, 20 October to Sunday, 5 November.
