Floating Bushcare

About Hornsby Floating Bushcare
Floating Bushcare is an enrichment opportunity for volunteers who already work at a Hornsby Shire Council Bushcare site. These people are passionate about restoring bushland and helping to protect the Hawkesbury River Estuary. They visit Council bushland reserves that are only accessible by boat to carry out bush regeneration activities.
Hornsby Floating Bushcare has its origins in the Floating Landcare Program, an award-winning regional partnership between local councils and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, coordinated by Greater Sydney Local Land Services. While this partnership program has finished, participating organisations, including Hornsby Shire Council, have continued to run their own similar programs.
At least four Floating Bushcare sessions are held in Hornsby Shire per year, all in the cooler months. Each session is coordinated and supervised by Council’s Bushland Programs staff and is held on a weekday. The work session runs for a few hours and includes transport by boat and morning tea. All equipment is provided.
Hornsby Floating Bushcare locations include Bar Island and Cunio Point.
