Check which items belong in your household recycling bin and find local recycling drop-off locations for harder to recycle materials.

Use the interactive map to look up any item and learn how to dispose of it properly or explore the community map for local recycling and safe disposal drop-off locations.

Tips for using Recycle Mate

  • Check that you have selected your bin system at home (3 bin system or 2 bin system)
  • Use the search bar to type in the name of the item in common terms like ‘cereal box’
  • Check the ‘Other Options’ or search the map to find lots of local recycling drop-off locations
  • Click on the green ‘i’ icon to find out more information about a specific item

How do I search for an item using Recycle Mate?

You can look up any item and Recycle Mate will provide you with your best disposal option. The map allows you to navigate to local recycling drop-off locations.

Recycle Mate is free to download and use.

How can I include my recycling program or charity in the community map?

If you are a local recycler, repair shop, charitable organisation or business participating in a recognised recycling scheme and would like to be included on the map and want to be part of Recycle Mate, email help@recyclemate.com.au

How do I provide feedback for a missing or incorrect item?

If you believe an item is missing from the search or the incorrect information has been displayed for the disposal of an item, please contact the waste hotline on 137030 or waste@hornsby.nsw.gov.au

How can I find out more information about Recycle Mate?

Recycle Mate is an initiative of the Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) with funding support from the Australian Government’s Environment Restoration Fund Program and the NSW Government’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Waste Less Recycle More initiative. Adaption Environmental Support is the program delivery partner.
