Retaining Wall Stabilisation Works Berowra Waters Road

  • Project typeRetaining wall stabilisation works

Project overview

Hornsby Shire Council will shortly commence urgent retaining wall stabilisation works on Berowra Waters Road, Berowra Waters.

The project is required to address road cracking and movement of an existing retaining wall that supports this important local road connection. The works will help prevent further deterioration, improve safety for road users and strengthen the long-term integrity of the road infrastructure. Construction is scheduled to commence in the week beginning 7 September 2026.

Ground Stabilisation Systems (GSS) has been engaged by Council to undertake the works, which are expected to take approximately two to three weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions.

What work will be carried out?

The stabilisation works will strengthen the retaining wall and surrounding area using:

  • Soil Nail/Anchor Installation
  • Mesh reinforced shotcrete

The work area extends for approximately 30 metres along Berowra Waters Road. These measures will improve the stability and long-term safety of the road and retaining wall.

Timing of works

Start date: In the week beginning 7 September 2026
Duration: Approximately two to three weeks (weather permitting)
Work hours: Generally between 8.30am and 3.30pm on weekdays. Please note work hours will be between 7.30am and 4.30pm on Thursday, 24 September 2026.

Work hours have been selected to minimise disruption to local residents and avoid peak traffic periods where possible.

Traffic impacts

Traffic Management will be in place for the duration of the works.

To maintain access along Berowra Waters Road:

  • One traffic lane will remain open at all times
  • Qualified traffic controllers will direct vehicles safely through the work area
  • Temporary speed restrictions may apply
  • Motorists should expect minor delays while travelling through the site

Council and the contractor ask all road users to follow the directions of traffic controllers and obey temporary traffic signage to ensure the safety of workers, motorists and the local community.

Why this work is important

These repairs are being undertaken urgently to address movement of the retaining wall and cracking in the roadway. Completing the stabilisation works now will reduce the risk of further damage, improve public safety and help protect this key transport link for the future.
