Proposed Galston Major Drainage Upgrade

  • Project typeStormwater drainage upgrades

Council is currently carrying out further site investigations and developing detailed design plans and costings for a major stormwater drainage upgrade in Galston, particularly in the areas around Glen Street, The Knoll, Gardiner Road and The Glade. Council is aware of previous flooding events in these areas in recent years, and it is noted the area has been listed in Hornsby Council’s Draft Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan (FRMSP). The aim of the proposed work is to improve drainage and flooding in the area, and shall include at least doubling the capacity of the existing stormwater pipes between Gardiner Road and creek outlet off Glen Street. It is also necessary to upgrade and formalise existing secondary overland flow paths as part of the works.

The proposed works also include the installation of a Gross Pollutant Trap at No.29 Glen Street (Council owned property). The aim of GPT installation is to improve the ecological health of downstream watercourses by improving water quality through the removal of pollutants including litter and sediments.

It is anticipated the design phase will be completed by October 2025, and construction works started during the 2025/26 financial year. Due to the anticipated high construction cost, and Council’s limited annual funds, the construction works will need to be staged over 2 or 3 years. Directly affected residents will continue to be consulted directly during the design phase.
