Sydney Writers’ Festival: Meet Inga Simpson, author of THE THINNING | Friday-2025-05-23, 2:00 pm | Friday-2025-05-23, 3:00 pm | Sydney Writers’ Festival is coming to your neighbourhood! Join bestselling author Inga Simpson to discuss her moving environmental thriller, The Thinning. The Thinning is a powerful literary page-turner about two young people in a race against time to restore the natural world and humankind. This urgent, exceptional novel provides a gripping glimpse of our possible future through a fascinating astrological lens, and will have you racing to the end. ‘We haven't always lived like this . . .' Fin grew up by an observatory, learning about telescopes and planets, inspired by the passions of her parents, then leaders in their fields of astrophotography and astronomy. Those days are long over. Now Fin, her mother, Dianella, and a band of outliers live deep off the grid, always on amber alert and always ready to run. In the outside world, things are not good: extinctions and a loss of diversity threaten what's left of the environment. With a new disaster looming, Fin finds herself thrust into an unlikely partnership with a stranger who has appeared in their camp - one of a new breed of evolved humans, the Incompletes, who are widely distrusted. But the pair will need to work together during a dangerous journey if they are to play their part in an audacious plan to help restore the natural world - and humankind. Inga Simpson is an acclaimed Australian author with a PhD in creative writing, renowned for her nature writing and environmental themes. Her latest novel, The Thinning was longlisted for the Indie Award for Fiction and voted one of The Guardian’s 25 Best Australian Books of 2024. Her previous titles, Willowman, The Last Woman in the World, Mr Wigg, Nest, Where the Trees Were and Understory: my life with trees, have all been listed for numerous awards, including the Miles Franklin and the Stella Prize. Inga will be joined in conversation by Michaela Kalowski, interviewer, moderator & curator for writers/ideas festivals. This event will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available to purchase at the Library. |
