How do I know if something is available?
Search our online catalogue to see what we have in our collections; the title status will say “Available”.
In the app, copy details are available at the bottom of the screen. The number “Available” is the number of copies the library holds. See the table for availability details of the individual copies.
Example: Available: Copies 3 means three copies are in the system, but all may not be currently available for loan.
How many items can I borrow?
You can have 10 items per library card.
Each person in your household who is a member of the library is welcome to request up to 10 items.
We reserve the right to cancel your reservations if you exceed the 10 reservation limit.
Can I ask for a mix of 'My Choice' and 'Librarian's Choice'?
No. Please use only one of these options for each request, up to 10 items.
How do I place a reservation?
Go to the catalogue to search and find an item. View the availability and follow the prompt to place your reservation.
Your Borrower ID is your library card number.
If you don’t know your Library password contact us for help or try your date of birth in the following format: DDMMYYYY.
How do I reserve picture books?
Please request picture books using our Librarian’s Choice service as reserving specific titles is not currently possible.
Example: 8 picture books to suit my 6 year daughter who is beginning to read. Premier’s Reading Challenge K-2 level titles preferred.
Will I be charged for reserving items?
No, our usual reservation per item fee is not being charged.
Will I still be able to access this service if I have fines on my card?
Yes, however you will be asked to pay your fines before borrowing. Contactless payment is preferred please.
When can I reserve more items?
Items may be reserved at any time, however we recommend you minimise your visits to the library and wait to collect all your items at the one time.
What items can’t be reserved?
Community Language books (except for Chinese, Korean and Hindi), children’s Launchpads, science kits, Vox books and Sphero Mini’s.
When can I return my items?
You may return your items at any time, subject to any government social isolation /travel restrictions. All library branches (Hornsby, Pennant Hills, Galston and Berowra) have after hours chutes open when the library is closed.
Why are the items I returned yesterday still showing on my library record?
In accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines from the NSW Government all returned library items are being quarantined for a minimum 72 hours
What happens if the COVID-19 situation changes?
The library website www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/library will be updated if the situation changes. The library may also email borrowers with advice, where this is possible. If altered restrictions are applied by the State or Federal Government, Hornsby Shire Council reserves the right to vary or cease this service.
I’ve cleaned out my home while isolating, can I donate my books/DVDS to the library?
Thank you for considering this option, but we are currently not accepting donations.
