Hawkesbury River Station Upgrade

The NSW Government is improving accessibility at Hawkesbury River Station. This upgrade will be delivered as part of the Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering modern, safe and accessible infrastructure.

Early work commenced in November 2019 and construction is expected to be completed in early 2021.

Project update July 2020

Upcoming work

Work will continue in July and include:

  • assembling the lift cars
  • sorting and removing surplus spoil from the site
  • completing the family accessible toilet
  • installing electrical and communications services to the platform, station amenities and lifts
  • continuing construction of platform drainage
  • installing cladding and the canopy to Dangar Road lift
  • constructing retaining wall and seat on Dangar Road.

Equipment to be used includes excavators, elevated work platforms, delivery trucks including concrete delivery vehicles, vacuum trucks, cranes, generators and small tools including jack hammers, concrete saws and hand tools.

Work will be carried out during standard construction hours, which are 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturday.

We will notify nearby residents and businesses in advance if we need to work outside these times.

Traffic, pedestrian and parking changes

To assist pedestrians and motorists, traffic control will be in place on Dangar Road during construction works and for delivery of materials.

A temporary footpath has also been established on Dangar Road to safely divert pedestrians away from construction works. This diversion will remain in place until October 2020.

Signs and traffic control will be in place to assist pedestrians.

Weekend work Saturday 6 June to Monday 8 June

From 6am Saturday 6 June 2020 to 9pm Monday 8 June 2020 (June long weekend), work will be carried out during a scheduled Sydney Trains track work weekend to enhance safety and minimise disruptions to customers and the community.

This work will include:

  • installing the structural steel work for the lifts on the platform and Dangar Road
  • installing the canopy steel work for the family accessible toilet
  • installing pre-cast concrete lift landing slabs with screens
  • installing roofs for the lift landings
  • trenching on the platform for electrical and communication services
  • constructing cable routes to supply power to the new lifts and tree removal
  • installing, testing and commissioning an additional guard’s indicator on platform 1.

Equipment to be used includes a 250-tonne mobile crane with four semi-trailers of equipment and counterweights, a 25-tonne Franna crane, three 2-tonne excavators, elevated work platforms, crane trucks, heavy vehicles, small dump trucks, generators and lighting towers.

No train services will operate and the station will be closed during this time. Please contact Transport Info 131 500 or visit transportnsw.info for more information about replacement bus services.

There may be some noise associated with this work and we understand this may be disruptive at times. We apologise for the inconvenience and will aim to minimise impacts by:

  • turning machinery off when not in use
  • using non-tonal reversing beepers on all machinery
  • minimising the number of equipment operating at any one time
  • conducting regular noise monitoring.
Traffic, pedestrian and parking changes

To assist pedestrians and motorists, traffic control will be in place on Dangar Road during construction works and for delivery of materials. Access to the marina will be maintained at all times.

Due to the location of the crane and construction activities on the June long weekend, the Dangar Road bus stop will be temporarily relocated to Brooklyn Road in front of the Anglers Rest Hotel. Signs will be in place to direct bus passengers to the temporary stop.

There will also be restricted access to the Long Island Pier on the June long weekend as a crane will be positioned in Dangar Road for the lift installation. Traffic control will be located on Brooklyn Road and Dangar Road to manage and direct traffic.

To enable this work, motorists need to remove their vehicles by Wednesday 3 June 2020 from the 15 car spaces (shown on the map overleap) in the Dangar Road car park.

Amenities

The male toilet is being demolished to accommodate construction of the new family accessible toilet. The female toilet has been converted into a unisex toilet while this work is under way.
