Berowra is soon to become a destination for residents looking to declutter some of their pre-loved items, as well as those who are searching for a bargain, with Hornsby Shire Council to host a Car Boot Market and Clothing Swap on Sunday 25 June.

This market day follows last year’s launch of Council’s garage sale platform, Second Hand Hornsby. The innovative service on Council’s website allows residents to list their garage sales and plan their day of visiting sales across the Shire.

Council is encouraging locals to reduce the number of items sent to landfill, by instead opting to give their unwanted items a new lease on life. Some of the items that will be on offer at the Car Boot Market include toys, furniture, books, sporting equipment and other household items.

Mayor Philip Ruddock has called on the local community to get involved in the fun-filled initiative and by doing so, playing a part in helping conserve Hornsby Shire’s environment.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together, whether buying or selling, to experience the fun of car boot markets,” Mayor Ruddock said.

“The Car Boot Market and Clothing Swap is an initiative which is environmentally, socially and financially rewarding, and will be reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill.”

Berowra Car Boot Market will run from 9am-1pm at the Berowra Community Centre. Limited parking is available, so anyone keen to attend is encouraged to travel via public transport.

Stall holders are now able to register for free, on the Hornsby Shire Council website.

While Hornsby Shire residents are recycling more and more every year; growing concerns remain around fast fashion. In helping to reduce this, a clothing swap will also take place between 10am-12pm in the Community Centre auditorium. Anyone interested in taking part in the clothing exchange needs to book online as spaces are limited.

Second Hand Hornsby aligns with Council’s Waste Matters Strategy and is part of several initiatives to assist Council achieve its goal of diverting 80 per cent of community waste from landfill by 2030.
