Citizenship Ceremonies

Email us if you have any problems with this page

To become an Australian Citizen you must apply through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

You can apply by phoning the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880 or by visiting the DIAC's website at website address www.citizenship.gov.au

Your application will be processed by the DIAC and if successful, the DIAC will notify you by postal letter.

Within approximately four to six months, the DIAC will notify you by postal letter of the time and date of your Citizenship Ceremony.

Attending your Citizenship Ceremony is compulsory. The ceremony involves taking a pledge of commitment to the Commonwealth of Australia, reciting an affirmation to Australia and its people, singing the Australian National Anthem 'Advance Australia Fair' and being presented with your Citizenship Certificate.
