Policies and Codes
This Register provides details about Council Policies, Codes and Statutory Documents. In this regard:
Council Approved Statutory Documents (CASD) – Are documents that are either required or allowed by legislation and are subject to final approval by Council. Generally, they would have been accepted as a final draft by Council and placed on public exhibition prior to their adoption. Sometimes the legislation requires that the Document be called a Policy and at other times a Code.
Council Policies - consist of objectives and protocol. The objective/s are broad statement/s of Council’s principles in relation to a specific activity/issue. They are supported by protocol/s which are broad guidelines to be followed in the achievement of policy objectives. Policies do not re-state what is already included in Legislation; Council Approved Statutory Documents or Industry Guidelines. Rather, they provide further statements which Council has the authority to make. Policies are prepared in a generic format and are, in most cases, no more than two pages in length.
Council Codes - are a collection of rules, regulations and standards, determined by Council, relating to a particular subject and are designed to provide guidance to Council staff and external parties about how business is done with Council. They have the same status and authority as Council Policies.
