Microbial control

Why is Council interested in microbial control?

Council assists in the prevention of diseases such as Legionnaires' disease by monitoring the management of water cooling systems such as cooling towers.

Every year around 70 cases of Legionnaires' disease are notified to NSW Health. Council ensures that cooling towers being managed and serviced appropriately is an effective method to reduce the potential threat of Legionnaires' disease.

In June 2004 NSW Health updated the Code of Practice for the Control of Legionnaires' Disease. This document outlines the requirements for the control of Legionnaires' disease.
