Lost and found pets

It's very distressing when a pet goes missing. Council tries very hard to reunite you with your companion as quickly as possible.

Two dogs at pound

What to do when your dog or cat is missing

Contact Council on 9847 6666, your local veterinarian and the pound on 4560 4644 to see if it has been taken there.

Impounded dogs and cats

When dogs and cats are impounded their microchip numbers are scanned and their owners are contacted as soon as possible so they can be reunited.

Sometimes owners cannot be contacted or an animal does not have a microchip. If the pet is microchipped it is kept for a minimum of 14 days. If the pet is not microchipped it is kept for a minimum of seven days. After this time the pet, if suitable, may become available to be rehomed.
