- identify and assess the Aboriginal heritage of the Shire;
- make practical recommendations for conservation and management;
- promote Aboriginal heritage within the Shire;
- provide advice on management mechanisms for Aboriginal heritage; and
- provide the opportunity for training and education for Kooris through Land Council funding.

Preparation of an Aboriginal Heritage Education Kit
Hornsby Shire Council was the first local government authority in NSW to integrate the management and protection of Aboriginal heritage into its legislation and planning processes. It was also the first local government authority to implement and provide explanations of this legislation in one information Kit aimed at all community members and stakeholders.
