Linking Lives to Learning and Leisure
The internet is a valuable aid to research for family historians.
The countries listed below are linked to a variety of family history and genealogy websites. These sites includes guides, indexes and digitised images of documents. You can also make contact with other family history historians via some of the sites e.g. familysearch.com.
These sites could help you find when and where your great-great-great-grandparents were born, married and died, what they did and where they lived. If they came from overseas, you might be able to find out when they came and the name of the ship in which they travelled.
Major genealogical resources(not all available online) in the Family History section include:
- Ancestry Library
- Australian birth, death and marriage indexes
- Download a
Family Tree Pedigree chart (100 kb)
- family search, which includes the international genealogical index
- Irish transportation records
- tithe applotment books (Ireland)
- Sands directories
- ships’ passenger lists
- indexes to cemetery records
- indexes to probate records.
Librarians in the Local Studies section can advise you of other relevant Library resources and services.
