Tips for doing your homework or assignments in the Library
Before you start make sure you understand what your teacher wants you to do. Know:
- When the assignment is due.
- how much you need to write.
- how your assignment should be presented.
What to bring to the Library:
- Your library card so that you can borrow.
- Your assignment questions so that Library staff know exactly what it is you are trying to find.
- A pen and paper and change for the photocopier or printer.
Ask the Library Staff:
Come to the desk and ask the Library staff to help you find the information.
How to choose the right books:
- Check the book gives you the information you need.
- Does the book have a lot of information on your subject or just a few sentences or paragraphs?
- If you need pictures, does the book have good, clear pictures, maps etc?
- Does the book 'teach' you something new about the topic you are studying?
Don't Wait:
- Come to the library as soon as you are given the homework.
- If you leave it until the last minute, the books you need may already have been borrowed.
- Be prepared to spend time in the library. It is not always possible to borrow the books you need. You may have to work in the library.
