The official department holding Births, Deaths and Marriages registers and which also maintains New Zealand birth, death, marriage and civil union information and provides access to that information by issuing certificates and printouts.

New Zealand Birth, Death and Marraiges Historical Records
Website where you can search New Zealand Government records for births, deaths and maariages. Information available includes:

  • Births that occured at least 100 years ago
  • Stillbirths that occured at least 50 years ago
  • Marriages and eventually Civil Unions that occurred 80 years ago
  • Deaths that occured at least 50 years ago or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago

Contains information extracted from a private collection of New Zealand newspapers of the day, miscellaneous books and publications also feedback from researchers. Includes funeral notices, obituaries and other items from the 1840’s to the 1980’s.
