Adaptive Technology Access Centre (ATAC)

Hornsby Shire Library's Adaptive Technology Access Centre supports independent access to information for members of the community with a disability.

Need to access the Internet, word processing, the library catalogue, or Council's business papers with speech or enlarged text?

Visit our Adaptive Technology Access Centre which has a range of computer programs and equipment. Make a booking by phoning Hornsby Library Information Desk on (02) 9847 6614.

Equipment includes:

Open Book

  • Software that converts scanned print material into speech.
  • Reads printed material, eg. letters, books, forms

Zoom Text Extra

  • Magnifies up to 16 times on a computer screen
  • Magnifies the library catalogue, word processing and the Internet
  • Provides a basic screen reader

Jaws

  • Powerful screen reader
  • Access to the Internet and word processing
  • You must have prior training to use this software. If you need training please contact:

Closed Circuit Television

  • Enlarges the original text 3 - 40 times
  • Assists with day to day writing and reading activities by enlarging text as you work, e.g. completing bank forms, writing letters

 

Luxo Lamps

  • Magnifies the original document up to 3 times
  • Useful for reading spine labels and book covers
  • Also available at Pennant Hills and Epping Libraries

Intellikeys

  • Large Keyboard
  • Useful for people with limited hand movement and/or sight

Trackball Mouse

  • Larger mouse fitted with a ball on the top for easy movement
  • Useful for people with limited hand movement
  • Also available at Pennant Hills and Epping Libraries
