e-Journal Portal

Hornsby Shire Library & Information Service
Linking Lives to Learning and Leisure

If you already know how to look for e-Journals, simply login to the e-Journal Portal

The Hornsby Shire Library e-Journal Portal allows you to retrieve full-text articles from over 4,000 online electronic journals. You can search for these journals by title, International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) or subject (see e-Journals Help for information on searching). Once you have found a journal of interest, you will see a link, or multiple links, to one or more of the following databases:

  • Academic Search Elite

  • Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre

  • Australian Public Affairs Full Text (APAFT)

  • Business Source Elite

  • Freely Accessible Arts & Humanities Journals

  • Literary Reference Center

  • MasterFILE Premier

Each of these links will take you to a journal record, and from this journal record you can access the full-text articles. Please note, however, that if you try to access newspapers from Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre, you will not be taken directly to the newspaper record. Use Online newspapers for access to a wide-range of local, national and international newspapers.

Using the e-Journal portal
The way in which you access a journal article through the e-journal portal depends upon whether you are using a library computer or a computer at home.

If you are using a library computer, access journal articles as follows:

  • search the e-Journal Portal to find a journal of interest (see e-Journals Help)

  • click the database to the journal, which you will find underneath the journal title, to open the journal record in a new window

  • click the issue(s) down the right-hand side of the journal record until you get a list of the full-text articles (in PDF or HTML format)

  • click the article(s) of interest

If you are using a home computer, the procedure is almost the same as when using a library computer, but with an extra step. Access journal articles from home as follows:

  • search the e-Journal Portal to find a journal of interest (see e-Journals Help)

  • click the database to the journal to open a login page in a new window

  • enter your library card number into the password field on the login page to open the journal record

  • click the issue(s) down the right-hand side of the journal record until you get a list of the full-text articles (in PDF or HTML format)

  • click the article(s) of interest
