Weekly knitting groups

Hornsby Shire’s knitting groups create squares that are stitched into wraps and sent to areas in need of humanitarian assistance by Wrap With Love.

If you don’t know how to knit we’ll teach you. All you have to bring is a pair of 4mm needles and a desire to have a great time while helping others.

If you can’t make it to the meetings you can knit at home and drop the squares or completed wraps off at any library branch. Check out the knitting instructions here.

Donations of yarn (8 ply preferred) are also greatly appreciated.

What do the group’s members say about it?

Sonya Schock: “I enjoy the knitting group because it is full of happy people. My husband looked in on the group one day and commented that there’s more yakkety-yak than clickety-clack in that group.”

Gundel Briggs: “We like creating something and there are so many needy people in the world. I’m quite addicted to it, I look forward to coming here each week.”

Penny Plumbe: “If anybody has ever been stuck out in the cold they have an idea of what it’s like for these people who have to endure it night after night. When you don’t have much, something as simple as a warm, colourful blanket can mean a lot. It lets them know there is somebody thinking of them.”

Atholie Gallagher: “We all get the satisfaction of knowing we’re contributing to a cause greater than ourselves, but it’s also a great social outing.”

Yvonne Lassak: “It’s very rewarding when you see photos from overseas with people wearing our wraps.”
