Living on the estuary's edge
Urban development continues to modify estuarine foreshores through the direct loss and the fragmentation of natural habitat and its replacement with reclaimed parkland, infrastructure, housing and other artificial structures such as jetties and seawalls.
It is anticipated that in the near future there will be a large demand to build new and repair existing seawalls as a result to protect low-lying foreshore infrastructure from sea level rise associated with climate change. If you are considering building or upgrading a seawall please refer to the publications available on the Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority website before you proceed to work on it.
