Fire Permits

To undertake open burning in Hornsby Shire or to clear bushland for the purposes of developing a fire break there are a number of permits you may require.

Based on your location, the land zoning, fire district and legislation related to your activity, the process each landowner is required to follow can be very confusing.

To address the increasing complexity of this situation, Council will liaise directly with the Rural Fire Service on your behelf. Please call Council's Environment Division Customer Service unit on (02)9847 6853, and we can commence the process.

Council has also developed a streamlined process for their permits and can guide you through this process over the phone.
