Speaking at Council Meetings

Members of the general public are able to speak at Council meetings, and have their say on local issues, however some restrictions apply and differ depending on the type of meeting. For an overview on speaking at meetings see below, or for more detailed information read Council’s Code of Meeting Practice.

General Meetings and Informal Workshop Meetings

Members of the public may speak for a maximum of four (4) minutes on any agenda item as it comes up for discussion. If you wish to raise an issue which is not on the agenda, please contact Council’s Business Paper Coordinator on 9847 6836 or email hsc@hornsby.nsw.gov.au before 4pm on the day before the meeting. You may still have an opportunity to raise a non-agenda issue even if you have not contacted Council to have your item included, however priority will be given to those who have notified Council in advance.

Recordings

>> Go to recordings of Council meetings

Council audio records all of its meetings and these recordings are available on Council's website once the Minutes have been finalised. All speakers at Council meetings are advised of the public availability of the audio recordings and are requested to keep their comments relevant to the issue at hand and to refrain from making personal comments or criticisms.

Council makes every effort to ensure the audio recording equipment is in good working order at all times, and it is intended that the full Council meeting (barring confidential items) is included in the recording. However, it should be noted that ad hoc malfunctions with the equipment do occur from time to time and as such Council cannot guarantee that the meeting is always recorded in its entirety. Where Council is aware that the equipment has malfunctioned and parts or all of the meeting are missing, advice will be provided accordingly.
