Hornsby Shire moved a huge step closer to its new aquatic centre on Wednesday night when Council awarded the tender for construction to ADCO Constructions Pty Ltd.

Council voted unanimously to award the tender, meaning work on the main centre will be able to start almost immediately.

“It’s a satisfying moment, knowing we’ve been able to deliver what we promised and now there are no major obstacles to complete this exciting new piece of infrastructure,” Mayor Nick Berman said after the meeting.

“We hear often from members of the public who are impatient to see the pool built, but due diligence takes time.

“We wanted to make sure we get this right, not just for ourselves but for future generations, and I can say with confidence that we have.”

Council’s tender process was submitted to an independent review, which found it to be above reproach.

Financial assessments have been carried out on ADCO Constructions and a probity plan has been put in place.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” Mayor Berman continued.

“There were a number of tendering companies that could have completed the project, but ADCO Constructions shone through as the one Council is most confident of being able to work with effectively.

“We’ve already had a taste of the exciting things to come by watching the workmen build the access road to the site and that activity will only increase and spread in the weeks to come.

“Watch this space!”
