Citizenship Ceremonies
To become an Australian Citizen you must apply through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
You can apply for Citizenship or check the status of your application by phoning the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880 or by visiting the DIAC's website at www.citizenship.gov.au.
Your application will be processed by the DIAC and if successful, the DIAC will notify you by postal letter.
The application process is lengthy and a waiting time of up to six months can occur between your approval and your ceremony. All enquiries regarding your application should be directed to the DIAC as Council is not involved in the application process until you attend your ceremony.
Attending your Citizenship Ceremony is compulsory. The ceremony involves taking a pledge of commitment to the Commonwealth of Australia, reciting an affirmation to Australia and its people, singing the Australian National Anthem 'Advance Australia Fair' and being presented with your Citizenship Certificate.
